Music as a Second Language 101
This course will start at the very beginning. The "language of music" can seem overwhelming to any student. We will begin by explaining the very basics of music. Music notation, pitch, meter, signs, and so much more. How music is set up on a musical staff which is made up of 5 lines and four spaces. Key signatures, time signatures, dynamics, various rhythms, musical ornaments, and more.
We will break this language down into its basic parts and expand from there. It may sound complex but music is actually very simple. Every piece of music is constructed using a mathematical formula. However, music is an art and even though there is "mathematical formula" as its basis, the possibilities of what can be written, (and then performed) are endless.
Much like the same way you learned to read words in order to read books, magazines, signs etc. you will learn to read music. The easiest way to learn how to read music is by applying it to an instrument. (Its great fun) Do you have to play an instrument to learn how to read music, no. It will be much easier however.
So, if you are willing to apply yourself and practice, I believe anyone can learn to read music. Join us on Monday evenings at 6pm over the next 12 weeks and see for yourself.
